About Jute
Jute is obtained in a similar way to flax (linen), and is a strong, creamy, light brown fibre and
is often blended with cotton.

Common Jute Fabrics
Used for sacking and carpet backing.
Recommended Uses
Much of the jute fibre is still used for bags and sacks. These are semi-disposable, strong,
cheap and durable.
Jute is also used for carpet backing, linoleum and other floor coverings.
Properties
Jute is similar to linen. Sunlight rapidly deteriorates jute.
Care
Wash in any temperature. Line dry when wet to save excess ironing. Use a hot iron with
steam. It can be bleached (with care), dyed and dry-cleaned.
