Stacey's Expertise

Stacey looks after all the Design side of the business, meaning all the design principles, fittings, patternmaking and garment construction.

She has always been fascinated (possibly obsessed) with clothes, fabrics and buttons, whether it be beautiful silks and satins, or wild textured brocades with beads and laces sewn onto it! (She actually does have a large collection of buttons!!!).

She loves to mix and match unexpected colours, textures and styles together, just to see if they go together... and quite often they do! (After all, you never know what you are going to come up with!).

Education

Stacey has been sewing since the age of nine and patternmaking and illustrating since 1995. Her background education includes: completing her Diploma in Apparel Design and Construction in 1995 (Design Academy), also becoming a Finalist in the "Avant Garde Division" of the "Apple Computer Creative Youth Awards" (this was illustrated in the New Zealand Herald on 14 January 1996).

Stacey then went on to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Technology in 1998 (AUT), majoring in Costume, also winning the Deans Award for Most Outstanding Student in 1997, and also becoming a Finalist in the "Man Unleashed" section of the Wearable Arts Awards in Nelson (1997). (This was called "The Midas Touch" and was in made in 20 year-old glittery gold vinyl (from the 1970's), and sourced from the TVNZ fabric supplies).

History

In 2001, she started Malcolm Design in the spare bedroom of her house just doing hemming and alterations, and since then, the company has become more ‘formally established' (becoming ‘Limited" in August 2007) has grown rapidly each year to encompass Made to Measure fashion design for private clients. This is now the core of the business today. Her reputation from the very beginning has been built solely through word-of-mouth from these satisfied clients.

Stacey has an enormous amount of knowledge, experience and skills to draw from. At your Consultation she actively listens to you, sketching illustrations and asking questions where needed. She will not stop sketching until you see your perfect garment on paper! She has the ability to capture and illustrate the essence of your garment accurately."

Other Talents

Stacey's superior customer service and down to earth nature has assured the satisfaction of her clients, many of them becoming regular clientele and firm friends. Stacey has the unique ability to ‘extract' the perfect design from each client's imagination; through professional consultation and by continuously sketching images until she has their perfect design illustrated on paper. This enables the client to see exactly what their creation looks like. She understands people easily and quickly, thus allowing her clients to feel completely at ease and that they are being listened to.
